The Fire Chiefs Association of Santa Barbara County is committed to enhance Fire and Emergency Services through leadership and collaboration for the communities we serve.
As an adjunct body of the Fire Chiefs Association of Santa Barbara County, the Santa Barbara County Training Officers Association mission is to maximize operational readiness among the county's fire service personnel. In achieving our mission, the Association's goals are to identify training needs, acquire cost-effective courses and instructors, and provide firefighters access to those courses.

This course prepares the Hazmat Technician/Specialist to assume the role of the Assistant Safety Officer at a hazardous materials incident. It will help the employer comply with OSHA regulations and FIRESCOPE team typing requirements. The assistant safety officer position at a hazardous materials incident is the result of OSHA’s requirement under Title 8 CCR 5192 (or federal Title 29 CFR 1910.120) that “The individual in charge of the ICS shall designate a safety official, who is knowledgeable in the operations being implemented at the emergency response site, with specific responsibility to identify and evaluate hazards and to provide direction with respect to the safety of operations for the emergency scene. (q)(3)(G). Practical applications are threaded throughout the course in the form of Case Study Projects and Briefings.
